Trauma Therapy for 1199SEIU Members in New York
Specialized mental health treatment for healthcare workers and their families.
Healthcare workers spend their days caring for others, often while navigating overwhelming responsibilities, emotionally difficult situations, and the demands of life outside of work.
But being the person others depend on doesn’t mean you should have to manage everything on your own.
At Suffolk Family Therapy, we provide structured, trauma-informed mental health treatment for adults who are struggling with the lasting effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, and difficult life experiences.
We welcome inquiries from 1199SEIU members and their eligible family members. Certain 1199 benefit arrangements may be accepted through our Aetna contracts, subject to verification.

When Caring for Others Starts Taking a Toll
You don’t have to work in an emergency department or experience one significant traumatic event to be affected by what you’ve been through.
For many healthcare workers, stress builds gradually. You may find yourself functioning well at work while struggling with anxiety, emotional exhaustion, irritability, sleep disturbances, or relationships at home.
Others are dealing with experiences that began long before their careers in healthcare.
You may recognize some of these patterns:
- Feeling constantly on edge, even when you’re off the clock
- Difficulty disconnecting from work or allowing yourself to rest
- Experiencing intrusive memories or distress following difficult events
- Feeling emotionally disconnected from the people you love
- Struggling with boundaries, guilt, or the pressure to take care of everyone
- Recognizing that unresolved childhood experiences still affect your relationships and sense of safety
- Experiencing anxiety, depression, or a loss of connection with yourself
These experiences deserve attention, whether they stem from your career, your personal life, or both.
Introducing The Reclaiming Pathway™
Therapy With a Clearer Path Forward
At Suffolk Family Therapy, we believe treatment should be more than a place to talk about what happened during your week.
The Reclaiming Pathway™ is our structured approach to outpatient trauma recovery. It gives you and your therapist a framework for understanding what’s keeping you stuck, identifying what needs to change, and working toward meaningful improvements in your everyday life.
Rather than using one approach for everyone, treatment is individualized based on your symptoms, functioning, experiences, and goals.
Our clinical approaches may include EMDR, IFS-informed parts work, somatic interventions, CBT, ACT, and DBT-informed strategies.
Four Stages of Recovery
1. Build Capacity
Developing emotional regulation, resources, self-awareness, and the skills needed to navigate difficult experiences.
2. Resolve the Past
Addressing unresolved experiences, trauma-related beliefs, and responses through clinically appropriate interventions.
3. Reclaim Your Life
Strengthening relationships, self-trust, boundaries, and the ability to apply therapeutic progress in everyday life.
4. Sustain Recovery
Consolidating progress and developing strategies for continued recovery.
Treatment is not a rigid timeline. Your therapist adjusts the focus and pace based on your needs and progress.
Why Suffolk Family Therapy?
Specialized Trauma Training
Our clinicians receive ongoing trauma-focused education, consultation, and clinical support. Our approach integrates EMDR with other evidence-informed interventions so treatment can be adapted to your needs.
Individual Therapy and Structured Groups
The Reclaiming Pathway combines individualized therapy with structured group-based learning and skills development when clinically appropriate. Group participation and frequency are determined by the program’s current requirements and your clinical treatment plan.
Care Beyond a Single Diagnosis
Trauma doesn’t always present as PTSD. It may appear as persistent anxiety, depression, relational difficulties, emotional dysregulation, or patterns that are hard to change despite understanding them.
Convenient Treatment Options
We offer in-person appointments on Long Island and secure virtual treatment throughout New York State, making specialized care accessible to eligible clients beyond our physical office locations.
Can I Use My 1199SEIU Benefits for Therapy?
Some 1199SEIU members may be eligible to receive services through our participating Aetna arrangements.
1199SEIU offers multiple benefit funds and plan arrangements. Having 1199 benefits or an Aetna logo on your card does not automatically mean Suffolk Family Therapy is in-network for your particular plan.
Before scheduling treatment, our intake team will review your insurance information to determine whether your plan and assigned clinician are eligible for in-network services.
We will also review applicable benefits for individual therapy and any recommended group services, along with potential patient responsibility.
If your specific plan is not accepted, our team can explain available self-pay options.
