GETTING STARTED
Therapy Fees & Insurance

Starting therapy is already a significant decision. Understanding the financial side of treatment should not feel confusing.
Suffolk Family Therapy offers insurance-based and self-pay options for clients participating in The Reclaiming Pathway™. Your expected cost depends on your insurance benefits, the services included in your Recovery Plan, and the payment option you select.
We will explain your anticipated financial responsibility before treatment begins whenever possible.

Ways to pay for care
We offer insurance-based and self-pay options. The amount you are responsible for will depend on your insurance benefits, the services included in your Recovery Plan, and whether each service is covered by your plan.
Insurance
We currently work directly with select insurance plans.
Currently accepted for eligible new clients:
- Aetna
- 1199
- Northwell Direct
- World Trade Center Health Program (WTC)
Your responsibility may include a copayment, coinsurance, deductible, or services not covered by your plan. Coverage depends on your specific benefits, eligibility, medical necessity, authorization requirements, and other plan rules.
Verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. Your insurance company makes the final determination regarding coverage and reimbursement.
Out-of-Network Benefits
Some insurance plans reimburse a portion of care received from an out-of-network provider.
For clients with eligible NYCE, GHI, NYSHIP, or other out-of-network benefits, Suffolk Family Therapy may provide courtesy billing, superbills, or other documentation to support reimbursement.
Your insurance company determines the allowed amount, deductible, coinsurance, reimbursement rate, and whether each service is covered. Courtesy billing does not guarantee reimbursement.
Self-Pay
Self-pay may be appropriate if you do not have participating insurance, prefer not to use insurance, or choose a treatment structure that is not fully covered by your plan.
Self-pay options include a discounted pre-paid Reclaim package or pay-as-you-go services. Limited financial-access rates may also be available.
How The Reclaiming Pathway™ is billed
The Reclaiming Pathway™ is a treatment framework—not one single billable service. Your individualized Recovery Plan may include individual therapy, group therapy, and adjustments to the frequency or length of treatment over time.
Individual Therapy
Your primary therapist remains the clinical anchor of your treatment.
Individual sessions may focus on assessment, capacity-building, trauma processing, relationships and attachment, parts work, treatment planning, integration, and preparing for reduced treatment frequency.
Group Therapy
Structured groups provide education, practical skills, guided practice, and support for applying what you are learning outside of individual therapy.
Your Recovery Plan may include Finding Steady™, Resourcing & Resilience™, or Understanding My Parts™.
Treatment Adjustments
Your treatment needs may change as you move through the pathway.
When clinically appropriate, your plan may include changes in session frequency, session length, group participation, family or collateral sessions, or other recommended services. We will discuss meaningful changes with you before they are made.
Individual and group appointments are separate clinical services. If your Recovery Plan includes weekly individual therapy and weekly group therapy, insurance clients may receive two separately billed services during the same week. Benefits may apply differently to each service. Self-pay clients may select the prepaid package or pay for each service individually.
Self-Pay Fees
Self-pay clients may choose the discounted prepaid Reclaim package or pay for individual and group services as they are provided. Treatment frequency is based on each client’s individualized Recovery Plan. We will review expected fees, package terms, and payment options before treatment begins.
INTRODUCTORY 12-WEEK PACKAGE
$3,000
Equivalent to $250 per treatment week.
Initial Comprehensive Appointment billed separately.
What the package includes:
- 12 individual therapy sessions
- 12 Reclaim group sessions
- Progress and outcome monitoring
- Recovery Plan reviews
- Coordination between clinicians
- Program worksheets and resources
The same individual and group services would cost $4,500 at the pay-as-you-go rates. The introductory package provides a savings of $1,500 in exchange for committing to a structured 12-week treatment period.
Introductory pricing is available for a limited number of pilot enrollments beginning before December 31, 2026. Future packages and renewals will be charged at the rate in effect when the new package begins.
Initial Comprehensive Appointment
$275
The Initial Comprehensive Appointment allows us to understand your symptoms, functioning, relevant history, treatment needs, and whether Suffolk Family Therapy and The Reclaiming Pathway™ are an appropriate fit.
This self-pay fee is separate from the 12-week package. Clients using insurance are responsible for the amount determined by their benefits and applicable plan agreements.
Pay as You Go
Individual therapy: $275 per session
Reclaim group therapy: $100 per group
Combined weekly cost: $375
This option provides greater payment flexibility but does not include the 12-week package discount.
Additional services
Services beyond one individual appointment and one group per treatment week are billed separately at the applicable pay-as-you-go rate.
The package reserves weekly treatment capacity. One individual appointment and one group session are assigned to each of 12 consecutive treatment weeks. Services ordinarily cannot be carried forward or used after the package period. Same-week rescheduling may be available with sufficient notice, subject to clinician or group availability. Complete cancellation, emergency-exception, practice-cancellation, and refund terms are provided before enrollment.
Options That May Make Care More Manageable
We recognize that treatment cost can affect whether someone is able to participate. The following options may be available based on individual circumstances and program capacity.
Limited Reduced-Fee Openings
A limited number of reduced-fee package openings may be available based on financial need, household circumstances, treatment needs, and current program capacity.
Reduced-fee availability is not guaranteed. You may request a financial-access review before enrolling
CareCredit
CareCredit is accepted for eligible services, subject to credit approval and CareCredit’s terms.
Promotional financing availability depends on the transaction, available credit, and CareCredit requirements. Financing is provided by Synchrony Bank—not by Suffolk Family Therapy
Clients should review all financing terms carefully. With deferred-interest promotions, interest may be charged from the original transaction date if the promotional balance is not paid in full by the deadline.
Understanding Your Insurance Benefits
Our administrative team may check your benefits before treatment begins and provide an estimate of your expected responsibility.
Benefit information is not a guarantee of payment. Your insurance company makes the final decision about eligibility, medical necessity, authorization, allowed amounts, and reimbursement after a claim is submitted.
Your cost may include:
- Copayments
- Deductible amounts
- Coinsurance
- Noncovered services
- Charges above an out-of-network allowed amount
Questions to Ask Your Insurance Company
Call the member-services number on your insurance card and ask:
- Do I have outpatient mental-health benefits?
- Are both individual psychotherapy and group psychotherapy covered?
- What are my copayment, deductible, and coinsurance amounts?
- Has my deductible been met?
- Is prior authorization required?
- Are telehealth and in-person services covered differently?
- Do I have out-of-network behavioral-health benefits?
- What is the allowed amount for each service?
- How do I submit an out-of-network claim?
- Are there limits on receiving individual and group therapy during the same week?
Frequently Asked Questions
We will review your specific benefits, fees, and payment options with you before enrollment.
Is the $3,000 package required?
No. Eligible self-pay clients may select the discounted package or pay for services individually. Your recommended combination and frequency of services will still be based on your individualized Recovery Plan.
Can the package be billed to insurance?
The package cannot be submitted to insurance as one clinical service. Insurance claims and out-of-network documentation must identify the individual or group services actually provided and the amount allocated to each attended service.
Can I use out-of-network benefits with the package?
When appropriate, we may provide documentation for eligible clinical services actually received. Under the introductory package, the allocated rate is $200 for each individual session and $50 for each group session. Your insurance company determines whether those services qualify for reimbursement.
What happens if I miss a session?
Package services are assigned to specific treatment weeks and ordinarily do not roll forward. An individual appointment or group may sometimes be moved within the same week when sufficient notice is provided and space is available. Missed or late-cancelled services may be treated as used under the signed package agreement.
What happens if treatment ends before 12 weeks?
Payment for future services that will not be provided will be handled according to the signed package and refund agreement. Attended services and appointments appropriately charged under the cancellation policy are not refundable.
Can I use HSA or FSA funds?
Many psychotherapy services are eligible healthcare expenses. Because individual plans differ, you are responsible for confirming eligibility with your HSA or FSA administrator.
Does insurance cover group therapy?
Some plans cover group psychotherapy, while others limit or exclude it. Group benefits, copayments, deductibles, and authorization requirements may differ from individual therapy benefits.
Will you tell me what I owe before I start?
We will provide the clearest estimate possible based on the information available. Insurance verification is not a guarantee of payment, but we will explain known fees, expected services, and available payment options before enrollment.
