Hello everyone! My name is Alexandria, Alex for short. My hobbies and interests consist of a split between getting out and doing, and staying in and relaxing! I like to bike ride and run (more so for how I feel afterwards than the actual action of doing it). I also enjoy exploring new towns, parks, history, and art, followed by staying in the same position on the couch and watching as many episodes of a TV show on Netflix that I can stand (moving only for ice cream breaks).
I don’t really play favorites when it comes to a demographic or population that I like to work with. I enjoy working with many different age groups and mental health diagnosis, as I learn from my clients as much as they learn from me! I find that as humans, we have more similarities than we do differences. I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Stony Brook University. I have experience working in case management for individuals with severe and persistent mental health diagnosis, so I am savvy when it comes to knowing what resources are available in the community. I am passionate about working to ensure everyone has equal opportunities in life, which can be a tough goal because there are many factors and injustices that are beyond our control.
I find that mental health symptoms impede on individuals ability to live by their values-whether it be to socialize, spend time with family, assert oneself in a healthy manner, and overall just enjoy life and achieve their goals. I work with my clients to ensure that they are able to manage their symptoms so they do not get in the way of the person that they are meant to be. Mental health symptoms can be debilitating and frustrating, however I work with my clients to gain a level of self-acceptance that these issues are not their fault, and empower them to learn how to live life successfully despite these challenges.
